Exceptional French Gouaches 1870-1970

Morateur Gallery in Los Angeles is offering a large and important collection of works on paper.

These charmingly beautiful designs were originally hand painted for a well-known fabric, wallpaper, print and pattern Textile Company in France between 1870-1970 named Essef.  An auction sale was held after the company closed, Philippe Morateur was the chosen expert of sale by the auctioneer and was able to coordinate all sales, authentication, and identification.  His expertise and commitment improved the collections of several museums and private collections. The auction resulted with over 90% of the designs selling to museums such as Bibliothèque Forney and the Decorative Arts Museum in Paris, France.

All together the gallery holds over 1,000 original designs. They are signed, stamped, and dated by very popular and famous artists. The artists include Colette Gueden, E.J. Ruhlmann, Sue & Mare, Stephany, Bagues, and more.  Some are matted or framed, and they vary in size with the average ranging around 16" x 24" or 20" x 24 and a few larger ones at 5’ x 4’.
